Welcome!

You’ve signed up for an Initial Fit Session! I’m excited to meet you and hear you sing. I know it can be scary to take this step, so I’m glad you made it this far.

The point of the Initial Fit Session is to determine whether or not we work well together and if I’m the right teacher to help you accomplish your goals. I do not use vocal skill to determine if we’re a good fit, but rather explore whether or not my style of teaching and your style of learning mesh.

Below is information on what to expect, how to prepare, and how to get to the studio. If you have any additional questions, email me at sarah@hamiltonvoice.com or text me at (540) 540-421-9360.

How to Prepare

Select a favorite song to sing during your session. It doesn’t have to be perfect (there’s no such thing!) or memorized. There is no pressure to sound a certain way! I simply want to hear you sing and learn more about you and your music passion. You can sing a cappella, with a karaoke track, or self-accompanied.

Other than a song, just bring water and yourself! This session is about getting a feel for what voice lessons are like and decide if we want to work together moving forward.

As we wrap up the session, I will give my recommendations for next steps. If we’re a good fit, I’ll invite you to sign up to be a Waitlist Member until a Studio Member slot opens.

Young Singers: While singers usually attend lessons alone, I encourage parents/guardians to attend the Initial Fit Session, especially for elementary and middle school age singers. However, some singers prefer privacy. The singer and parent/guardian can decide who will be present. Regardless of privacy choice, I ask parents/guardians of elementary and middle school age singers to attend the final 5-10 minutes to discuss next steps.

What to Expect

1. We’ll spend the first part of your 45-minute session getting to know each other. I want to learn more about your musical interests, hobbies, music experience, and more!

2. We’ll sing through exercises so I can get an idea of your sense of pitch, ear training, musicianship skills, and overall tone. Please remember that this is not a test! You do not need to have a certain skill level to be a part of HVS. I simply want to learn more about where you are in your development and what our next steps will be.

3. I’ll have you sing through your song selection. Remember to have fun with this! Show me what interests you and how you interpret the song.

4. We’ll discuss what I recommend for next steps in HVS. At this point, I can answer any additional questions about the studio.

Directions

Please do not come to the front door. Read the directions below.

Hamilton Voice Studio is at the back of my house in Sunset Heights, Harrisonburg, VA.

950 S. Dogwood Dr.
Harrisonburg, VA 22801

Parking: Park in front of the house or in the driveway behind my red car. My driveway is connected to the neighbor’s driveway, so please only park on the blacktop.

Entrance: Walk towards the garage at the end of the driveway. Once you reach the garage, the studio entrance will be to your left. Come five minutes early to your session. I will likely have another singer ahead of you, so enter quietly and wait by the door or take a seat on the couch.

Additional Notes

I don’t currently have an accessible bathroom for singers, so come prepared.

I have a cat that sometimes makes her way into the studio. I vacuum and clean the studio each day, as well as run two high quality air purifiers at all times, but please let me know if you have an allergy so I can make sure you are as comfortable as possible.

All sessions will be video/audio recorded and shared with the singer and parent/guardian following the Initial Fit Session. These are not to be shared outside of the studio or family, and only serve as a reference tool for singer (and parent/guardian) and teacher.
